Strategic Luck
There is no such thing as “strategic luck” — I just made that up.
Why?
Because it’s the best description I could come up with for my career.
Basically, I grabbed opportunities I was most interested in at the time. There was no strategy back then, but now that I understand more about life, the world around me, and careers, I’m undoubtedly strategic. I won’t accept just any opportunity or client in my business.
The opportunities I accept MUST:
- have an impact on the world that I respect and want to be a part of
- use my skills, gifts, and talents (meaning that I don’t want to do something just because it’s easy)
- be with people whom I respect and who respect me and what I bring to the table
Strategic luck is a phrase I made up, but these 3 pillars were formed over time due to my lived experiences.
“If you live long enough” (this is a phrase my elders always use), you’ll find out that:
- All money is not good money. (FOCUS ON THE IMPACT)
- If you don’t use it, you’ll lose it. (USE YOUR SKILLS/GIFTS/TALENTS)
- When people show you who they are, believe them — the first time. (DON’T TOLERATE DISRESPECT. IT DOESN’T GET BETTER WITH TIME)
Now, take a moment to define your 3 pillars. I’d love to hear about them in the comments.
Note: There might be typos in this post. Autocorrect on phones can be such a gem 😉
